Water for Injection Generation and Storage System Delivered for a Pharmaceutical Company in Thailand
- Project Country: Thailand
- Completion year: 2023
- Capacity: 1t/h
Background
The client, a sterile injectable company from Thailand, produces large-volume parenterals (LVPs) and small-volume parenterals (SVPs). The newly-built sterile production floor needed dedicated water for injection (WFI) system that meets the water purity requirements for sterile injectable production. The client also required easy operation, centralized management and that the water for injection system is well suited to the local technical team.
Solutions
- Water for injection generation unit: The WFI generation unit is equipped with two 500L/h water stills working in tandem, achieving generation capacity of 1t/h, with purified water used for source water. The WFI generation unit incorporates redundancy process strategy and allows staggered maintenance.
- Water for injection storage tank: 316L stainless steel, 1,000 L working capacity, with continuous recirculation through tanks and piping for operation temperature maintenance (above 80℃).
- Distribution system: The distribution system is equipped with independent distribution module that connects to the plant-wide loop distribution piping, maintaining continuous circulation at required temperature and covering every point of use.
- Centralized control platform: The centralized control system monitors and manages the complete WFI generation, storage and distribution system.
Details
- Based on plant layout and point of use distribution, two 500L/h multiple-effect water stills, the 1,000 L storage tank and the distribution module are customized on the system level to optimize loop distribution path and help ensure consistent water temperature, water pressure and water quality at each point of use.
- The storage tank and the distribution system are operated under high-temperature recirculation. The distribution module is responsible for precision temperature control and return flow velocity. As a result, the microbial growth can be effectively reduced.
- The central control system allows operators to control entire system operation (temperature, conductivity, return flow velocity, etc.) from one centralized panel. Besides, the two water stills can be independently monitored and switched in-between. After short-term training, the local team can operate the WFI system without outside instructions.
Achievements
- The water quality continuously meets the requirements of sterile injectable production, with consistent quality at each point of use
- The two 500L/h works in tandem to increase generation productivity and provide redundancy for maintenance.
- The storage tank and distribution piping continuously operate under high-temperature recirculation, and the distribution delivers stable and consistent performance, enabling sufficient water supply at each point of use.
- The 1,000 L storage tank can meet the demand of peak water usage.
- The WFI system is well connected to the existing purified water system in the factory; the distribution module is designed to be compatible with existing piping and is easy to connect.
- The finished WFI system has been in operation and well-received by the client.
